SA Powerball — How to Play, Draws & Number Frequency Analysis
What is SA Powerball?
SA Powerball is one of South Africa’s flagship lottery games, operated by Ithuba Holdings. It features a two-drum format similar to the American Powerball and offers some of the largest jackpots in South African lottery history. Draws take place every Tuesday and Friday.
How to Play SA Powerball
Players choose 5 numbers from 1 to 50 and 1 Powerball from 1 to 20. To win the jackpot, you must match all 5 main numbers plus the Powerball. The Powerball is drawn from a separate drum, so it can repeat a number from the main selection.
- Division 1 (Jackpot): Match 5 main numbers + Powerball
- Division 2: Match 5 main numbers
- Division 3: Match 4 main numbers + Powerball
- Division 4: Match 4 main numbers
- Division 5: Match 3 main numbers + Powerball
- Division 6: Match 3 main numbers
- Division 7: Match 2 main numbers + Powerball
- Division 8: Match 1 main number + Powerball
- Division 9: Match Powerball only
Draw Schedule
SA Powerball draws are held twice weekly — every Tuesday and Friday at 20:58 SAST.
SA Powerball Number Frequency
Because SA Powerball uses two separate drums, frequency analysis is done separately for the main numbers (1–50) and the Powerball (1–20). Some Powerball numbers are drawn significantly more often than others. Win-a-Lotto tracks this across the full draw history and factors it into member number suggestions.
Jackpot & Odds
The jackpot starts at R10 million and can grow to hundreds of millions through rollovers. The odds of winning Division 1 are approximately 1 in 42,375,200. Overall odds of winning any prize are around 1 in 35.
